- Description
- The Sydney Rock Oyster (Saccostrea glomerata- henceforth referred to as SRO) has a wide distribution throughout Australia (Nell 2003) and is responsive to environmental oestrogens (Andrew et al. 2008). Therefore, this study developed a molecular tool that can be used to detect Vtg gene expression rapidly as an indicator of endocrine disruption in this species. The developed assay was then used as a biomonitoring tool to assess potential endocrine disruption in two rivers on the Sunshine Coast: the Maroochy River, which receives sewage effluent from multiple sources, and Noosa River, which receives no sewage effluent.
